Whereas Laguna Palcacocha has grown substantially during the past decades, there is only some minor glacier contact remaining in the rear part of the lake, so that the potential for future growth is limited. The scar in the moraine ridge on the right side goes back to a landslide in 2003 which caused an impact wave and a minor flood.
