This bridge crosses the Rio di Palazzo, connecting the Palazzo Ducale with the prison, the Prigioni Nuove. Completed in the early 17th Century, the Bridge of Sighs received its name during Romanticism, following the imagination of the sighs of the convicted people when viewing the lagoon for the last time.
