Forests of Canary Island pine (Pinus canariensis) are the dominant type of vegetation between roughly 1000 m and the tree line above 2000 m elevation on Tenerife, but also some of the other islands of the archipelago. These fire-resistant forests form an almost closed belt around the Teide massif, sometimes with very sparse undergrowth. The village of Vilaflor and the S coast of Tenerife are shown in the background of the scene.
