View from the vicinity of the Miradouro Sítio do Portão over the centre of Vila do Corvo in SW direction. Roughly 400 people live in the only settlement of the island of Corvo. They have to travel to other islands for all but the most basic services, using the harbour or the small airport (opened in 1983, part of the runway is shown in the background). During severe winter storms, when both sea and air traffic are suspended, Corvo is one of the most isolated places of the European Union.
