The Mistério da Prainha is a lava field going back to an eruption in 1562-1564. It extends from the highland of the Achada plateau all the way down to the N coast of Pico, where it forms a lava delta known as Ponta do Mistério. The system of stone walls indicates the former use of this site for grape cultivation.
