Nagelfluhkette | Conglomerate rock at Hochhäderich

WI_ge001_357_36.jpg

This photo shows a close-up view of the conglomerate rock locally known as Nagelfluh. It originates from sediment transported out of the early Alps which later consolidated, and was folded and tilted due to tectonic forces. It is unusual that such molasse rocks form mountain ranges as high as the Nagelfluh chain, with summits above 1800 m asl.
