Les Grandes Jorasses (4208 m) in the background. The photo was taken from a ridge representing a backscarp, indicating the deformations characteristic for the NW slope of Mont de la Saxe. The comparatively dry conditions at the top of the ridge favour the occurrence of juniper (Juniperus communis), whilst the slopes are occupied by various species of Vaccinium.
