The original level (4185 m asl.) of this largest lake in the Cordillera Blanca has been lowered and is controlled through a tunnel for reasons of lake safety. The pyramid-shaped mountain in the left central background is the Pirámide de Garcilaso (5885 m), the summit in the right background is Chacraraju (6108 m).
