View from Ponte de Santa Clara across the Rio Mondego towards northeast. The University of Coimbra (on the hilltop) represents the oldest and one of the leading universities of the country. It is further one of the oldest universities worldwide in continuous operation (founded in 1290 in Lisboa and moved to Coimbra in the 16th Century).
