View from Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead) across the River Tyne to Newcastle. Formerly representing an industrial area in a state of decay, the Quayside has been converted into a modern environment for various types of cultural activities as well as for housing. The Gateshead Millenium Bridge, opened in 2001, represents one of the major symbols of this redevelopment.
