Northumberland coast with Bamburgh Castle

WI_uke110.jpg

Tidal zone of the Northumberland coast. The basaltic outcrop in the background, dominated by Bamburgh Castle, was already used for fortification more than 1500 years ago. The core of today's castle goes back to the Norman period, whereas its contemporary appearance is strongly related to renovations in the 18th and 19th Century.
