This mosaic in the interior of Hagia Sophia reflects the diverse history of Istanbul: since its completion in 537, the ancient building has served as a Christian, Greek Orthodox, and Roman Catholic church until 1453, then as imperial mosque until 1931, as a museum from 1935 to 2020 and since then, as a mosque again.
