Chuquicamata | Former mining town

Central square of the mining town having hosted the workers of the copper mine of Chuquicamata for many decades. In the early days it was representing a very much closed system, providing many facilities but also keeping the miners dependent on the company. The town was abandoned in 2007 due to health and safety concerns. The inhabitants were resettled to the nearby city of Calama.
