Plants need to develop specific strategies if they want to survive in the harsh climate at 5000 m asl. in the headwaters of the Ishinca Valley. Some of them have developed a very compact growth form, helping to create a favourable microclimate with reduced wind and evapotranspiration, and higher temperatures than in the surroundings.
