View from the slopes of Pachamama (4120 m) to Pachatata (4085 m). The island of Amantaní, with a surface area of slightly less than 10 square kilometres, rises more than 300 m above the lake. The roughly 4000 inhabitants grow various crops on ancient terraces. Tourism on Amantaní is fully community-based: visitors are assigned to privately operated guest houses on a rotational basis, so that each family and each community only receive tourists from time to time.
