These ferry boats connect Antigua with the neighbouring islands of Barbuda (left, Barbuda Express) and Montserrat (right, Jaden Sun). Catamarans are used for these services to make the journeys more comfortable and safer in the prevailing rough seas. The pier was built to facilitate access to Barbuda, but also the evacuation of Montserratians in case of a very strong eruption of the Soufrière Hills Volcano. Construction was supported by the European Union.
