Richmond Hill represents one of the villages which were evacuated in the mid 1990s after the reactivation of the nearby Soufrière Hills Volcano. The swimming pool of the Montserrat Springs Hotel was completely filled by volcanic ash, and also the hotel itself has suffered major deterioration.
