The tilted and folded sandstone rocks of the Dolomiti Lucane sharply rise from the surrounding hills. Despite the rugged terrain, this area at more than 1000 m asl has been populated for more than 1000 years. Pietrapertosa is often considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
