This Roman Catholic cathedral was built between 1163 and 1345 in Gothic Style. It is considered a major masterpiece of medieval architecture and artwork, even though various elements were added or replaced in later periods. One of them was the 19th-century timber spire (flèche) above the crossing, the highest tower of the church. This spire, and the entire roof of the cathedral, were destroyed in a fire on 15 April 2019.
