Flight Munich - Rome, view in eastern direction. All the water of the Meduna River and its tributary Cellina (lower portion of the photo) infiltrates the large fan of sediments transported out of the Alps during floods. The water flows underground until it reappears much farther downstream. The Tagliamento, which can be seen in the upper centre of the image, shows a similar, but less extreme behaviour. It is considered the most important of the few remaining largely unmanaged rivers in the Alps.
