Badacsony with vineyard
WI_hu507.jpg Badacsony | Vineyard and BalatonThumbnailsBadacsony | Basalt columns

Badacsony (437 m) is the ruin of an ancient volcano. What remains is mainly the basaltic core. Contraction due to cooling and solidification of the lava has resulted in a system of joints separating column-like pieces of rock. Weathering, erosion, and rock falls have formed a landscape of individual columns and groups of columns (organs), which can be seen in the background of this photo.
