The proglacial lake of Sulzenauferner in a tributary of the upper Stubai Valley appeared in 2003. Partial drainage on 12 August 2017 led to damage downstream. The outlet of the lake was permanently lowered through erosion, so that an assemblage of dead ice, glacio-fluvial deposits and lake sediments has been exposed.
