View from the summit area of the volcano Eldfell (200 m) in NW direction over the island of Heimaey with the town of the same name. The volcano in the left portion of the photo is Helgafell (227 m). It is approx. 6000 year old, whereas Eldfell formed as late as 1973 during a major eruption devastating part of the island. The lava flow on the right side almost blocked the harbour entrance.
