Svínafellsjökull with landslide deposit

WI_is098.jpg

The mass of debris on the glacier tongue represents the deposit of a landslide which occurred in 2013. However, the debris cover is very thin. Most of the superelevation is the result of decreased melting, as the debris protects the ice from solar irradiation.
