This 1682 m high tuya (table volcano) rises approx. 1000 m above the surrounding lava field Ódáðahraun and is known as the Queen of mountains. It formed beneath a huge Pleistocene ice cap. The bright surface in the foreground reminds of the 1875 eruption of the volcanic system Askja, with widespread pumice falls.
