The Pasterze, one of Austria's largest glaciers, has experienced massive recession during the last few decades. This has resulted in the formation of a large proglacial lake in the 2010s. The right side of the Pasterze is, to some extent, protected from thawing by its debris cover. Johannisberg (3453 m) is shown in the central background of the photo.
