The Pasterze, one of Austria's largest glaciers, has experienced massive recession during the last decades. Its forefield is covered by a proglacial lake, loose till, and some remaining bodies of dead ice. The right side of the Pasterze is, to some extent, protected from thawing by its debris cover. Johannisberg (3453 m) is shown in the background.
