View from the road leading up to the Col de l'Iseran in NW direction. Val d'Isère - well known for its Alpine ski races - has served as a winter sports station since the early 20th century, and unifies the characteristics of different stages of the evolution of tourism in the French Alps. It has grown around the original village of Val d'Isère. The summits of Grande Motte (left central background, 3653 m) and Dôme de la Sache (right central background, 3601 m) are partly shred in clouds.
