Lac de Serre-Ponçon with Pont de Savines

WI_fr040_076.jpg

This reservoir collects the discharge of the Durance and Ubaye rivers for the purposes of flood control, hydropower generation, and irrigation. First plans date back to the late 19th Century, as a consequence of severe flooding before. Finally completed in 1961, the project led to a number of villages being submerged. The Pont de Savines carries the road N94 between Gap and Briançon across the lake, which also serves for recreational activities.
