WI_fr040_079.jpg

View from the road D954 near Le Sauze-du-Lac in SE direction up the Ubaye Valley. This reservoir collects the discharge of the Durance and Ubaye rivers for the purposes of flood control, hydropower generation, and irrigation. First plans date back to the late 19th Century, as a consequence of severe flooding before. Finally completed in 1961, the project led to a number of villages being submerged. The lake also serves for recreational activities.
