This formation of hoodoos or earth pyramids has evolved in a deposit characterized by a broad variety of grain sizes, most likely glacial till. Those areas beneath large blocks are protected from the otherwise intense erosion related to heavy rainfall, resulting in the formation of bizarre columns. They are, however, short-lived in geological time scales (the left pyramid has already lost its cap and is prone to destruction), so that the landscape is changing rapidly.
