View in NW direction to the proglacial lake of Rhonegletscher and the Gärstenhörner (3189 m). The Hotel Belvedere represents a Grand Hotel of the Belle-Époque era of tourism. It lost much of its importance in the second half of the 20th Century due to the retreat of the Rhone Glacier and the shorter travel times, making overnight stays at this location obsolete. The hotel was closed in the 1980s, re-opened in the 1990s, and closed again in 2015, six years before this photo was taken.
