The Schnoor - named after the road of the same name - is the only neighbourhood in the historic centre of Bremen that has retained a medieval character, even though many buildings date to the 17th and 18th centuries. The narrow alleys in this area - such as the Marterburg shown in this photograph) are popular among tourists.
