Ponta de São Lourenço with Pico do Furado

WI_md118.jpg

Ponta de São Lourenço, forming the easternmost tip of Madeira. This peninsula receives comparatively little rainfall and stands in sharp contrast to the rest of the island. The combination of solidified lava (Basalt, Trachyte) and pyroclastic material, and the abundance of vertical dikes, lend the cliffs their colourful and diverse appearance. View in SE direction to the Pico do Furado (150 m), forming the outermost tip of the peninsula.
