Panoramic view across the caldera of Fogo in SE direction to the stratovolcano Pico do Fogo (2829 m). The secondary crater on the right side of the cone produced an eruption in 2014/15, leaving much of Portela, one of the two villages of the community of Chã das Caldeiras, covered by lava. The roofs and upper parts of some destroyed buildings are still visible, whereas the village - founded in 1920 and largely relying on grape cultivation and tourism - has been rebuilt on top of the lava.
