View along the N part of the Bordeira, the escarpment of the caldera of Fogo. Like Portela, also Bangaeira, the other village of the community of Chã das Caldeiras, was partly covered by lava during the eruption of 2014/15. The roofs and upper parts of some destroyed buildings are still visible, whereas the village - founded in 1917 and largely relying on grape cultivation and tourism - has been rebuilt on top of the lava.
