Eastern highlands of Antioquia

WI_co236.jpg

View from the mountain pass Alto de Matasanos across the Aburrá Valley in S direction to the E highlands of Antioquia at approx. 2200-2300 m asl., intensively used for crop cultivation. Besides their role as the "garden" of the city of Medellín, they are also well-known for export-oriented flower farming. Together with the N highlands, which are primarily used for cattle grazing, they form the deeply eroded surface of a huge granitic batholith.
