Medellín | Wall paintings at Comuna 13

The hillslope settlements of San Javier (Comuna 13) had the reputation as one of the most dangerous places in the World in the outgoing 20th Century, suffering from drug-related gang wars. Still populated by economically challenged people, Comuna 13 has undergone a dramatic improvement in safety, and quality of life in general. Numerous wall paintings tell the story of Comuna 13, even though at least one large international enterprise has placed its commercials among the murals decorating the neighbourhood.
