Panoramic view from Piedra del Peñól in NW direction. This hydropower reservoir with a water level of approx. 1880 m asl. goes back to the late 1960s and the 1970s. It is located in an undulating landscape characterized by the deeply weathered granitic rock of the Antioquia Batholith, and therefore has a strongly branched appearance. The lake also plays an important role for recreational activities and represents a popular leisure destination for the inhabitants of nearby Medellín.
