Gran Canaria

Flight Praia - Lisboa, view in SE direction over the island of Gran Canaria. The island basically represents an extinct shield volcano. Remnants of the volcanic slopes can still be recognized. However, they have been deeply dissected by fluvial erosion. The higher parts of the NE slopes of the island (seen in the centre of the picture) are more humid than the rest of the island, supporting the existence of montane forests.
