Plants need to develop specific strategies if they want to survive in the harsh climate at 5000 m asl. in the headwaters of the Ishinca Valley. Some of them have developed a very compact growth form, helping to create a favourable microclimate reducing evapotranspiration and moderating the temperature, compared to the surroundings.
