The historic centre with the Catedral de Lima and the Plaza Mayor is shown directly behind the river. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. The neighbourhood at the bottom of the photo, in contrast, represents a consolidated informal settlement founded through land invasion some decades ago.
