Basin of the moraine-dammed Laguna Salkantaycocha. On 23 February 2020, a huge chunk of rock and ice broke off the S face of Nevado Salkantay, evolving into an avalanche which impacted the lake. The displacement wave overtopped and partly eroded the dam (upper centre of the photo), resulting in a catastrophic glacial lake outburst flood downstream. Since then, the lake basin has been seasonally dry.
