Panoramic view of the uppermost part of Quebrada Humantay, with Nevado Salkantay (6271 m) in the right background. On 23 February 2020, a large landslide occurred on the S face of the mountain and impacted Laguna Salkantaycocha. The displacement wave overtopped and partly eroded the moraine dam (right centre), resulting in a catastrophic glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) that reshaped the valley until tens of kilometres downstream, and led to several fatalities and huge damage.
