Nevado Salkantay and eroded terminal moraine

View of the distal slope of the moraine dam of Laguna Salkantaycocha with Nevado Salkantay (6271 m) in the background. On 23 February 2020, a large landslide occurred on the S face of the mountain and impacted the lake at its base. The displacement wave overtopped and partly eroded the moraine dam, resulting in a catastrophic glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) that reshaped the valley until tens of kilometres downstream, and led to several fatalities and huge damage.
