The informal neighbourhoods in the foreground of this photo represent pueblos jóvenes ("young villages"), the result of land invasions mainly by people migrating from the countryside to the growing and economically prospering city of Arequipa. The settlement of El Chaparral (left central foreground) started to evolve around 2011.
