Valle del Colca | Landslide of Madrigal in 2018

WI_pe101_431_901.jpg

View from Mirador de Wayrac Punku in NE direction. This section of the Colca Valley has been influenced by earthquakes, volcanic activity, and large landslides impounding the valley. Fine lake sediments alternate with coarser fluvial and rock avalanche deposits, and with various volcanic layers. Bank erosion by the Río Colca has led to further landslides such as the large rock slide shown in this scene. Movement occurs at very slow rates: the comparison of images from 2018 and 2022 hardly reveals any changes.
