Also the island of Taquile, with a surface area of 6 square kilometres, experiences a relatively mild climate due to the influence of the surrounding Lake Titicaca. Its more than 2000 inhabitants grow various crops on ancient terraces, such as corn, quinoa, oca, and different types of potatoes.
