Flight Vienna - Funchal, view in N direction over the Monts du Cantal with Plomb du Cantal (1855 m) shown on the right side of the scene. This mountain massif represents the remnant of Europe's largest stratovolcano, with its peak of activity approx. 8 million years ago. Later on, the volcano was deeply eroded by fluvial processes, but also by Pleistocene glaciers, as indicated by some U-shaped valleys.
