View from Pico dos Sete Pés over the Caldeira das Sete Lagoas on the highland of Flores in SW direction. Three lake-filled maars of Holocene age are shown: Lagoa Seca (with little water), Lagoa Comprida, and Lagoa Negra. They formed due to phreatomagmatic explosions, induced by the contact between magma and groundwater.
